Are you an introvert? We have tips for you on how to successfully network at social events

Social events, meetings, conferences and parties are often a great, unique opportunity to network and to establish cooperation with new people. However, there are people that are not very fond of this method, i.e. introverts, who thus deprive themselves of the possibility to develop their business activities. However, with some effort it is possible to learn this networking method and thus exploit the potential of various “business/networking” events, so here are the three most important tips for introverts on how to network at social events.

Open stance

A person who takes part in these types of event signals his or her willingness (consciously or subconsciously) to talk to another person by adopting an open stance – oriented towards an open space, arms not crossed and not looking at your phone. This is something to keep in mind both in terms of looking for people to talk to and in terms of what impression you give to the others.

Reduce disturbing elements when conversing

As Forbes states, when you are talking to another person, focus fully on that person only. Don't look at your phone, don't look at your watch, don't look at other people over the shoulder of the person you are talking to, and don't try to focus on your surroundings too much. All these disruptive elements can lower the potential chances that the conversation will have a positive result.

Remember that others are in the same situation as you

Don't fool yourself into thinking that you're the only person at the event who doesn't know anybody and wants to establish new contacts and cooperation. Networking events are organized exactly for these purposes, and attendees are open to meeting new people. They will often appreciate your initiative if you take the first step in talking to them. Many of them might feel more nervous than you.
